Paige is another 2012 target for ISU
The Iowa State basketball coaching staff has developed a trend as of late. They're offering local kids at very young ages, hoping to snag early commitments of future stars. The Cyclones picked up one 2012 commitment earlier this week when Wesley Staten, a 6-foot guard out of Sioux City West committed to Greg McDermott and his staff.
Iowa State has two other 2012 offers out on the table to local guards. One of them is to Linn-Mar freshman Marcus Paige. Paige, a 5-foot-10 point guard has been sitting on a Cyclone offer for some time now and he was on campus a few weeks ago attending the Iowa State/Nebraska football game.
Joining Paige on the unofficial visit was South Sioux City 2012 prospect Mike Gesell and Staten. Paige and Gesell have a history of playing AAU basketball together for the Martins Brother team. They're relationship has grown steadily over the years.
"They are pretty special and tight friends," said Paige's father, Ellis Paige. "They have great chemistry. It's just something that you have to see. They feed off of each other. It's pretty special."
Paige is preparing to begin his freshman season at Linn-Mar and his recruitment is just beginning to heat up. Along with Iowa State, he holds and offer from Northern Iowa of the Missouri Valley and two Big Ten schools have begun to creep into the mix.
