Zeigler stars at Izzo Shootout

EAST LANSING - While Trey Ziegler was playing in the Tom Izzo Spartan Shootout on Friday, four of Mt. Pleasant's other varsity returners were in Battle Creek leading the Oiler baseball team to the Division 2 state title game with a 6-4 semifinal victory over Stevensville Lakeshore on Friday.

Without four returning contributors Mt. Pleasant hardly resembled the Mid-Michigan powerhouse that had made it all the way to the regional finals each of the last three years. But Ziegler and the rest of his Oiler teammates did play well in stretches despite being shorthanded. And Mt. Pleasant's 2010 standout left little doubt as to why he is one of nation's most sought after players.

In the four games he played on Friday, Ziegler thrived playing multiple positions and was able to drive and finish with either hand when given an opening to penetrate. The Spartans' junior recruiting target also showcased his rapidly improving shot.
