QB Nick Foles: Commitment big on several fronts
The addition of quarterback Nick Foles to the Spartan recruiting class of 2007 was important to Michigan State on several fronts. Head Coach Mark Dantonio and his staff made Foles a top priority the minute they found out he was available. SpartanMag.com takes a closer look at the impact of the Foles commitment.
The Depth Chart:
Getting a commitment from a 3-star recruit with multiple BCS offers that is ranked the #30 quarterback in the nation is always a positive. From a depth standpoint the commitment of Foles is extremely important for Michigan State. The Spartans are heading into the 2007 season with only two quarterbacks on scholarship that have ever even taken a practice snap in the Green and White, Brian Hoyer and Connor Dixon
Even when the Spartans had a verbal commitment from Keith Nichol they had anticipated taking another quarterback for the class of 2008. When Nichol de-committed the idea that Spartans would be able to add two impressive quarterback commitments in a matter of only two months seemed remote.
The Spartans will now head into the fall of 2007 with two quarterbacks that each bring their own unique skill set to the table. The commitment of Foles along with Kirk Cousins will give Coach Dantonio one of the top 20 quarterback recruiting classes in the nation for the class of 2007 according to Rivals.com.
