Even during a 'dead period' things are still churning on the recruiting front for the Ohio State football program. The next big visit weekend appears to be the weekend of January 13th with some of the top remaining targets hoping to make their official visits to Columbus. For four-star Scottsdale (Ariz.) Chaparral athlete Davonte Neal, that weekend is the target date for an official visit, though his Father, Luke Neal, says that isn't set in stone just yet.

"That hasn't been confirmed yet," said Mr. Neal. "The date is there but it isn't confirmed yet just because of some awards stuff that he is doing here, that's the only thing that we're waiting on."

Neal continued that if there was a scheduling conflict that weekend, that a back-up date would likely be scheduled.

"We haven't really spoken to anyone at Ohio State (about a back-up date)," he said. "We've been trying to get Davonte ready for the Under Armour Game but I'm sure there would be a back-up date if it didn't work out on the 13th."

The last real contact the Neal's have had with Ohio State came when Stan Drayton made an in-home visit approximately two weeks ago.

"It went well," Neal said. "I think Davonte had a good time talking with him so it went well."

Since that time, an official visit to Notre Dame has taken place and the Fighting Irish left a pretty big impression.

"It went real well," he said. "They showed him the university and he got to spend a lot of time with the professors. He toured the campus and went to a basketball game and just got the whole Notre Dame experience."

The coming weeks leading up to National Signing Day are a busy time for all undecided prospects but especially for the Neal household.

"He's getting ready to go to the Under Armour Game now so he'll play in that," Neal explained. "Then he will get back on Friday the 6th (of January) and we'll see our schedule for awards and where he has to be. It's going to be tight getting everything together with him being certain places so we have to find a time where we can sit down and start getting back to recruiting."

With the official visit to Notre Dame as well as pending trips to Ohio State and Arkansas, those three schools all are firmly in the mix but there may be some other contenders.

"I know those are some of the schools," he explained. "I don't think those are all of the schools (in the mix), Tennessee is somewhere in there as well. I'm not sure what is going on with everybody yet though because we haven't really looked at anything in a few days."
