On Saturday, the Johnnies snatched up another hot prospect from the Class of 2012, building on their already stacked war chest. Just cross a line through Darrick Wood's name as the D.C. native has made his final call.
After his first unofficial visit to the St John's campus Saturday, the athletic guard made the call.
"I just verbaled to St. John's while I was there today," he said. "I believe it's a perfect fit for me. I have an all-around game. I think I will be well needed at St. John's. We will make a lot of noise in the Big East. I wanted to be a part of something special."
During the summer months, the shooting guard played with his travel team, the Playaz Club. On the road with his team is when the St John's staff showed him the most love.
"The whole staff was at all my games this summer with the Playaz," he said. "I'm cool already with Ricardo Gathers, Maurice Harkless and Jakarr Sampson. I played against a lot of the guys there already ."
Before Wood made his final commitment, he held a solid deck of offers.
"I had offers from USC, Virginia Tech, University of South Florida and Oklahoma State," said the guard.
Wood is a D.C. native who transferred this past fall from Progressive Christian to the NIA Prep school in New Jersey. The shooting guard is reclassified as he was originally a part of the Class of 2011.
Today, Wood is schedule to play in the Tri-State Classic in Harlem.
