Woodbury blowing up

It's been quite a spring for Adam Woodbury. While he was certainly a Top 100 prospect in the Class of 2012 coming into the spring, in the past few weeks has likely cemented his place much higher up the national rankings, culminating with his MVP performance this past weekend at the NBA Players camp in Virginia.

"It was a pretty special camp for me," Woodbury said. "It was a great honor to win the MVP of the camp, but I couldn't have done it without having great teammates who helped us win the championship."

During the second half of his high school season at Sioux City East High School, Woodbury admits he hit a few rough patches, but this spring he worked hard on his game and his body and that is paying dividends now on the basketball court.

"I wish I could tell you why things have clicked this spring, but I really can't," said the 7 footer. "I just worked very hard on my game and also got stronger. I can't really say what I did different in the last few months, but I think I have just put myself in a position to be successful."

With his recent run of success, it has led to increased interest from some of the top college programs in the country. Ohio State recently extended a scholarship offer and now North Carolina and Duke have entered the mix of schools.

"I talked to Coach Williams tonight and also Coach Capel at Duke today. They are looking to build a relationship with me. They said they are going to watch me play in July and then at the end of the month tell me what they think and go from there."

Woodbury admits that he is enjoying the recruiting process thus far and is still open to having new schools enter the mix this summer before deciding on where he will take official visits this fall.

"I am still letting everyone come in and recruit me and try and build relationships with every one of the coaches to learn more about them. I'm having fun with the recruiting process and it hasn't been a burden for me. I am only going to do this one time in my life, so I might as well enjoy it," he said.

One school that has been consistently in the mix for the Sioux City big man is Iowa, who Woodbury has said many times was his favorite college program growing up. When Coach Fran McCaffery was hired over a year ago, he made Woodbury one of his early priorities for the Class of 2012.

"I talked to the Iowa coaches and Coach McCaffery after the NBA camp and they congratulated me on the honor, which means a lot. Since the day he got the job, Coach McCaffery has made recruiting me a priority and I think the entire staff is great."

Next up for Woodbury is a trip to the Nike sponsored Amare Stoudemire Camp this weekend and he will have a busy month of July with more camps and AAU events with his Martin Brothers/All Iowa Attack teammates, including a trip to the prestigious Peach Jam in the middle of the month.

After a busy month of July, Woodbury plans on setting up a few official visits and then he plans to make his college choice known before the start of his senior season.
