Russell picks up second BCS offer

Seth Russell was one of the standouts in the Jayhawks recent Skills Camp over the weekend. The Kansas coaches liked what they enough to respond quickly with a scholarship offer.

"I called coach Turner Gill this morning and he told me had some great news," Russell said of talking with Gill. "He offered me a scholarship. He told me I could be the one to lead them to a Big 12 title. He talked to me about what he liked when I was at camp."

Russell, who stands 6-foot-4, has quietly been a solid target for the Kansas coaching staff. During the spring evaluation period both Chuck Long and David Beaty had a chance to watch Russell at Garland's practice.

On Sunday he had a chance to throw in front of Gill, Beaty, and Long.

"Coach Gill said he hasn't seen a quarterback throw like that cold with new receivers," Russell said. "They liked how I anticipated the routes and my timing. He said he liked my leadership and how my speed can get me out of the pocket. He (Gill) said I would be a great fit for their team."

Russell camped at Tulsa on Saturday. He turned in an impressive 40 time with a pulled quad muscle from the day before. He has a camp today at Houston and then will travel to Oklahoma on Wednesday.

"It was really exciting to get the offer from Kansas," Russell said. "My adrenaline was pumping. I'm blessed to have this opportunity. I'm glad I went there to show what I can do."

Kansas and Wake Forest are the two BCA schools that have offered scholarships. There are several other schools showing interest in the Garland recruit. He wants to make sure he is thorough when he goes through the recruiting process.

"Kansas is at the top of the list," he said. "They have great coaches and it is very exciting to get an offer from them. I want to go through the process and see what opportunities are out there. I want to make sure and find the right place. I want to go to a place that I can fit in."
