2012 in-state prospect meets with McCaffery

The Class of 2012 in the state of Iowa has several high major prospects and the biggest player on that list is Adam Woodbury. The now 7 foot center from Sioux City East High School is clearly a priority for Coach Fran McCaffery and his staff and they invited him to Iowa City this weekend for an unofficial visit.

"The Iowa coaches called about a week ago and I talked to Coach Francis. He invited me down for the spring game and I was able to make it," Woodbury said.

After arriving in Iowa City in the morning, Woodbury got his first chance to sit down Coach McCaffery and he likes what he heard, including that his scholarship offer still stands.

"I met with Coach McCaffery and I also met his wife. They were both very cool. The first thing he said was that he was really happy to meet me in person and that my offer still stands," he said. "Then he talked about his vision for the future and how he plans to turn around the program and make me a better player."

Woodbury then went over to Kinnick Stadium and watched the spring football game with several Iowa Basketball players, including Jarryd Cole and Eric May. They also delivered their sales pitch.

"I sat with Jarryd Cole and Eric May and they seemed like they have bought into the new scheme and told me how much they like the new coach. They said everyone wants to turn the program around."

First impressions matter in recruiting and reflecting back, Woodbury felt very good about the one delivered by Coach McCaffery. He had developed a very strong relationship with Coach Lickliter and his staff and is excited to build an even better one with the new coaches.

"After meeting him for the first time, it was a good first impression and I felt comfortable. The relationship is just starting and I hope it gets to be as strong as I had with the old staff," Woodbury said.

Iowa plans on visiting Woodbury at Sioux City East High School on Tuesday for an open gym. But, the Hawkeyes won't be the only school making their way to Sioux City. On Sunday, a long list of schools will be in town for an open gym.

"On Sunday I have Kansas, Illinois, Iowa State, Drake, and Stanford are all coming up to watch me. Iowa is coming back up on Tuesday to watch me," he said. "I am very excited about it. I'm going to try and not be too nervous, but it will be hard. I never done a workout with more than one school, let alone five."

Woodbury added that Minnesota and Creighton have been by his school in the past week to watch a workout and that the Blue Jays have extended a scholarship offer. His other offers at this time include Iowa, Iowa State, and Nebraska.
