Zeigler 'comfortable' with MSU, 2010 class
When Michigan State's 2010 recruiting class signed in November, Tom Izzo indicated that the class has room to add one more player, and the Spartans have set their sights on four-star wing Trey Zeigler of Mount Pleasant.
The Spartans signed four-star point guard Keith Appling, three-star wing Russell Byrd, three-star power forward Alex Gauna and five-star center Adreian Payne in November.
Earlier this week, SpartanMag.com caught up with Zeigler who updated his senior season and the latest in his recruitment.
Mount Pleasant has been on a roll as of late, thanks in part to the play of Zeigler. The Oilers picked up a 56-53 win over Saginaw High (then-ranked No. 4 in Class A) this past Friday. It marked the first time the Oilers have defeated the Trojans since joining the Saginaw Valley League five years ago. Zeigler led the way with 20 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
"We're doing really well right now. We're 10-3. We got off to a slow start at first, we were 1-3, but now we're on a nine game winning streak and we're playing really well," said Zeigler, who Rivals.com ranks the No. 26 player overall in the Class of 2010. "We just beat Saginaw last Friday, which was a big win. It was like the first time we beat them in school history, I think, so it was a great win. As far me individually, I've been playing really well. I think I'm averaging 25 (points) and 12 (rebounds). And we just started to pick it up and we're looking forward to March and continuing this run."
Away from the court, Zeigler is staying the course in his recruitment and keeping an eye on a handful of suitors who are jockeying to land his signature during the April signing period.
"Right now Michigan, Michigan State, Arizona, Arizona State, Duke and Central Michigan and UCLA," Zeigler said of the schools he's focused on.
