With limited options for the spring signing period, programs have been scrambling for capable talent. On Monday, Georgia may have found a sleeper in the form of TeShaun Hightower, a 6-foot-4 lead guard from Mt. Zion Prep.

Born in Illinois before playing out his high schools days in the Peach State, Hightower decided that it was in his best interests to take a prep year at Mt. Zion to boos his stock. Thanks to quality performances at the bigger winter events and the upside that he oozes on the perimeter, a bevy of higher level programs began to pursue. However, it was Georgia’s void at the point guard position that won out.

JJ Frazier is leaving and Tyree Crump and Jordan Harris want to be 2-guards. TeShaun got a chance to come in start as a freshman at the one,” Terrence Thomas, Hightower’s uncle, told Rivals.

After taking an official visit to Georgia beginning on January 3, it was the attention that the head coach of the SEC program gave to Hightower that really impressed.

“Coach Fox, even when they had to play South Carolina, he was with him all day. He was recruiting him and talking with him all day so that was big,” said Thomas.

Others such as La Salle, Western Kentucky, and Georgia Tech pursued Hightower, but the chance to be lose to home and strength of the development program at Georgia, really stood out with the high upside guard.

“I wanted him to stay at the 1-guard and not as a combo. It gives him the chance to get to the next level that much better,” said Thomas. “The weight program really sold us. Seeing (Kentavious) Caldwell-Pope come in at 168 and leave at 205 and the meals on the road and at home are great. It is just a good fit.”

What might Georgia fans expect with Hightower? While he does need to better his decision-making skills and add further consistency to his jump shot, the 6-foot-4 guard is an excellent playmaker that can score the ball from 15-feet and in, rebound the basketball, and also defend various spots on the floor.

Joining Nic Claxton and Rayshaun Hammonds as members of Georgia’s 2017 recruiting class, Hightower is another high upside piece added to the mix that should be able to contribute from day one in Athens.
