Rivals150 standout David McCormack commits to Kansas

Kansas reeled in its second top-35 big man commitment today thanks to the pledge of David McCormack. A 6-foot-10 center and one of the hardest playing interior prospects in America, McCormack is a tremendous addition for the Jayhawks as they continue to round out their future frontcourt.

A native of Norfolk, Va. who is entering his senior year at the mighty Oak Hill Academy program, McCormack has been a heavily followed and prioritized prospect dating back to his underclassmen years. While McCormack will never be described as an explosive, above-the-rim athlete, he has developed physically to the point that he can contribute through prolonged minutes on the floor.

"Kansas is a good program, Coach (Bill) Self is a good coach and they just know how to win,” he said. “They just told me I have to come in and work hard and that they will develop me into a better athlete with better me with my skill development. They won’t overwork you but will work you smart.”

McCormack chose the Jayhawks over offers from NC State, Oklahoma State, Duke and Xavier

The Jayhawks enter the new college basketball season with no frontcourt players above their sophomore years. They could potentially lose both Udoka Azubuike and Billy Preston early to the NBA after this season, though they will see KJ and Dedrick Lawson restart their college eligibility in Lawrence next year after transferring into KU from Memphis.

McCormack becomes the second member of Kansas' 2018 recruiting class as he will be joined by explosive power forward Silvio De Sousa next fall. The Jayhawks remain firmly entrenched in the recruitments of a variety of top tier guards, including five-star seniors Devon Dotson, Quentin Grimes and Ayo Dosunmu.
