In the coming weeks, we will be looking at several under-the-radar prospects that were primed to use the travel circuit to boost their recruiting stock this summer. Now, with grassroots basketball on hold as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, these prospects may not get the exposure in the coming months as they would have otherwise.

Today, we take a look at Tre Donaldson.

WHO IS HE?

A 6-foot-1 point guard out of Tallahassee, Florida, Donaldson is entering his junior summer on the travel circuit in which he is slated to play with The Skills Factory-Mack team on the Nike EYBL circuit. In doing so, his exposure was set to amplify where he was expected to team up with top-25 sophomore Bruce Thornton and top freshman guard Isaiah Collier.

The primary ballhandler for his local Florida State University High School, Donaldson finished the season at 20-7, and averaged over 15.3 points, 10.1 assists, 6.5 rebounds and three steals per game. He plays for former Florida State standout and Heisman trophy winner Charlie Ward.

A two-sport athlete, Donaldson also has the chance to play football in college, though he favors the roundball above all else. Already, as a safety prospect, the member of the 2022 class holds a Georgia Tech offer, and has garnered further interest from Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky and Miami.

RECRUITING SNAPSHOT

While his football recruitment trumps all that he has been able to achieve on the hardwood, a number of schools have begun to show greater interest in him. This spring, he was expected to turn the interest into offers from some of the more prominent schools that he has been in touch with.

No offers have been received just yet and Donaldson has not taken an unofficial visit. However, a group including Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Ole Miss, and Texas Tech have already begun to lay out the proper foundation towards recruiting him.

WHY I LIKE HIM

Donaldson possesses good size, length and quickness at the lead guard spot. While his time on the football field could take away from his investment towards basketball, it has not detracted from what he has been able to accomplish thus far.

He is a tremendous two-way threat that can impact the game on both ends. For someone with his quickness, usually most have a deficiency in the shot making department. That is not the case with Donaldson who wields a fluid and consistent jumper that is already an evident weapon within his game. He has no issues creating his own offense and that for others thanks to his all-around feel for the game and passing skills.

Playing for former FSU standout Charlie Ward and attending a high school that is just minutes away from the ACC program, some may be scared off by the presence of Florida State. However, Donaldson has made it known that he is wide open with his recruitment.

I would expect for his offer list to be one that is littered by a variety of high-majors once the 2021 calendar year arrives regardless of how the travel season plays out. Donaldson is all that one looks for in a top shelf guard prospect and will begin to be recruited as such in the nearby future.
