UCF rode the league's best defense and a solid offense to the league title, and as such, three Rivals.com league awards are going to the Knights.
First, UCF's George O'Leary is our league coach of the year. He has guided UCF to its second league title, thanks to his emphasis on defense in a conference that too often treats defense as an afterthought.
UCF defensive coordinator Dave Huxtable is our coordinator of the year in C-USA. His unit led the league in total defense, scoring defense, rush defense and pass efficiency defense.
Finally, Knights QB Jeff Godfrey is out C-USA freshman of the year. Godfrey, who is the leading career passer in Miami-Dade County history, started 11 of UCF's 13 games and has thrown for 2,042 yards and 13 TDs and has rushed for 546 yards and 10 more scores. He has completed 68.4 percent of his passes, which leads all freshman quarterbacks, and he is eighth nationally in passing efficiency.
East Carolina quarterback Dominique Davis our offensive player of the year and our overall league MVP. It's not his fault that ECU is 6-6 headed into the Military Bowl against Maryland. Davis, a junior college transfer who began his career at Boston College, has thrown for 3,699 yards and 36 TDs; the touchdown total is tied for the national lead. He is averaging 308.2 passing yards and 320.1 yards of total offense per game, and has accounted for 45 of the team's 58 offensive TDs.
Marshall linebacker Mario Harvey is our league defensive player of the year. Harvey, who is nicknamed "Thumper," made 143 tackles, including 17.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. Harvey also had seven pass breakups, six quarterback hurries and three forced fumbles.
