BATON ROUGE -- LSU men's basketball coach John Brady announced Wednesday that his office has received signed letter-of-intent papers from Dameon Mason of Kansas City, Mo.
Mason, played this past season and will transfer from Marquette to Baton Rouge, where he will be eligible for the 2006-07 season after sitting out the 2005-06 campaign under transfer rules. He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Mason, 6-5, 190, averaged 11.9 points per game last season for the 19-12 Marquette team and was third on the team in scoring, starting 28 games and averaging 30.4 minutes a game. Mason was 42.6 percent from the field (142-of-333), averaging 5.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per contest.
As a freshman, Mason earned Conference USA All-Freshman team honors, averaging 9.0 points per game with 17 starts and an average of 21.8 minutes per game. Mason averaged 4.5 rebounds per contest.
"We are very pleased to have Dameon Mason join our basketball program," said Coach Brady. "He was very highly regarded senior out of West Aurora High School (Ill.) and has had two good years at Marquette. Dameon will fulfill a need that we will have on our team after next season, giving us a very athletic perimeter player. We feel he will have an outstanding two years at LSU."
In his senior season at West Aurora, Mason averaged 20.9 points and was second in the voting for the 2002-03 Mr. Basketball Award in the state of Illinois. He was ranked 40th in the nation by TheInsidersHoops.com and 38th nationally by ESPN.com. He also played with former LSU basketball player, Brandon Bass, after his senior season in high school in the EA Sports All-Star game in Chicago.
