The University of Arizona's Josiah Turner was included on the Wayman Tisdale Award preseason watch list, the United States Basketball Writers Association announced Thursday.

Turner, a 6-foot-3, 192-pound guard from Sacramento, Calif., was one of 12 first-year players in contention for national freshman-of-the-year honors. The watch list also included Bradley Beal (Florida), Chane Behanan (Louisville), Khem Birch (Pittsburgh), Anthony Davis (Kentucky), Andre Drummond (Connecticut), Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (Kentucky), Le'Bryan Nash (Oklahoma State), Austin Rivers (Duke), Marquis Teague (Kentucky), Adonis Thomas (Memphis) and Cody Zeller (Indiana).

The USBWA has given out a freshman-of-the-year award since 1988-89. Last season, it was renamed in honor of the late Wayman Tisdale.

The 16th-ranked Wildcats open the 2010-11 season with the annual Red-Blue Game on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 2 p.m. PDT in McKale Center. The regular season opener vs. Valparaiso is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m.
