Robert Mahon has been highly interested in Boston College since his summer camp experience there so heading up for an unofficial visit this past weekend was a big deal to the 2013 offensive tackle from Randolph, N.J.
While the 6-foot-5, 305-pound prospect doesn't have an offer from the Eagles yet there is definite interest there and he's hoping to impress the coaching staff enough this season to earn one.
The trip this past weekend - even though it was another loss for Boston College - was good for Mahon, who lists an early offer from Rutgers.
"We drove up there Saturday morning and we got there and went to the athletic center," Mahon said. "We talked to the recruiters and some other kids and then we went on a tour of the entire campus and it was nice to see that.
"When we got back we went on the field and watched warm-ups. Then we went through the tunnel and all the coaches walked out. We had a quick talk with the coaches and then all the players came and that was really nice and then we went to our seats for the game."
One of the things Mahon noticed while being in Chestnut Hill was how many alumni came back to support the team and that was definitely something he liked.
Mahon has a lot of interest in Boston College especially after working with offensive line coach Sean Devine at summer camp.
"After summer camp they said they wanted to see my game film so I don't know where it's leading so hopefully I get an offer soon," Mahon said.
"(Devine) is a great guy and a great offensive line coach. I'd actually say out of all my camps I learned a lot from him. He's very supportive and he knew it was early in my process, it was only after two years of playing and he really helped me out a lot.
"It would be more than if someone else offered me just because academically how highly competitive the school is so I'd be looking at that."
And to Mahon, since it's still so early in his recruitment, Boston College's slow start doesn't really bother him at this point.
"It doesn't really affect me because I look at them, especially as an offensive lineman knowing what coach Devine does, so many offensive linemen at BC have gone to the next level," he said. "I have two more years really until I would play there."
