White impressed by Iowa visit
Jake White came to Iowa City last month for the Hawkeye's Elite Basketball camp and quickly made an impression. A little over a month later, the 2011 forward prospect from Minnesota made a return trip, this time for an unofficial visit. Once again, he was very impressed with what the Hawkeyes have to offer.
"I thought that it was great. The atmosphere there was terrific. The fans were great. The whole student section was awesome. They were all in black and into the game. All the fans were really into the game," White said.
The 6-foot-7 forward from Chaska, Minnesota got a more personal touch on his second visit, including spending some time with Coach Todd Lickliter and his staff.
"Another recruit and I spoke with him (Lickliter) and it was a somewhat brief conversation. We just talked basketball for awhile and he seems to be a great guy. He was cracking a few jokes as well."
He also got to spend a little time with assistant coach Chad Walthall, who gave him some advice on how to reach the highest level in college basketball.
"I talked to Coach Walthall and he gave me a great complement, he said I have a great work ethic. We talked more and what I think I need to do to play at a high level is to add some weight and muscle. I think if I gain ten to twenty more pounds, it makes a huge difference."
White, who averaged nearly 15 points a game last season, also got to spend some time with several Iowa players and got a better feel for the overall program.
"I got to speak with Jarryd Cole for a little while," White said. "He was a fun guy and I enjoyed watching him in the scrimmage. He was a very humble guy, but very honest. I also spoke with a couple of the other players and they were a great group of guys."
White said that the Iowa coaches will be at his open gym this week, along with Colorado State, and Northern Iowa. Last week, Santa Clara was in for an open gym. Right now he says that three schools have been recruiting him the hardest.
"I would say that Iowa, Wichita State, and Northern Iowa are recruiting me the hardest."
He said that he hopes to make a return trip to Iowa City for a basketball game and he plans to visit Wisconsin soon for an unofficial visit.
