McLaughlin Talks Baylor
Late Monday night, news broke that Mark McLaughlin had officially been released from Nevada.
On Friday night, McLaughlin, the highly touted shooting guard from Kenmore, Wash. spoke to SicEmSports.com about what his plans are for deciding on his new college choice.
"I've been talking to Baylor a lot recently," McLaughlin said. "Coach Drew came to my house last night.
"It was great. I like coach Drew a lot. He's a real cool guy."
McLaughlin confirmed that Georgia is not in his plans, even though the coach that recruited him to Nevada, Mark Fox, is the new head coach of the Bulldogs.
"Coach Fox and I had a close relationship, but I'm not going to go there [Nevada] without him," McLaughlin said. He also said since Fox has said he will not raid Nevada for recruits, eliminating Georgia from contention.
McLaughlin said Friday that he is also interested in Providence, Miami, Fla., Arizona and Alabama. Since he has already taken an official visit to Nevada, he can only visit three of the other schools aside from Baylor who he plans to visit soon.
"I talked to everyone this week," McLaughlin said, "but I talked to Baylor coaches the most."
McLaughlin doesn't have a timetable for when he will pick a new school, saying that he wants to take things slow, but not takes too long.
"It all happened so fast," McLaughlin said. "I didn't expect Coach Fox to leave."
McLaughlin said he followed the Bears' run to the NIT championship game. He said he likes Curtis Jerrells' game a lot - "He was hitting NBA 3-pointers out there," he said - and that he sees his game as similar to Bears sophomore scoring machine LaceDarius Dunn.
"I'm a shooting guard," McLaughlin said. "I'm a real good scorer. I'm a smooth, scoring shooting guard."
