Badger coaches contact Weatherspoon
It's been a crazy few weeks for J.D. Weatherspoon.
With the departure of Sean Miller to Arizona, Weatherspoon, a one-time Xavier commit, has elected to re-open his recruitment and start all over.
Thursday night, BadgerBlitz.com caught up with the 6-foot-6, 200-pound power forward to discuss his future.
"Honestly, I can't be mad at Coach Miller," said the Columbus (Ohio) Northland three-star prospect. "He needs to do what is best for his family. I can respect that."
After recently starting his recruitment from scratch, Weatherspoon has seen a handful of high-major programs inquire about his services.
"Well, Wisconsin recently contacted my head coach," Weatherspoon said. "They are showing some interest. I'd love to play in the Big Ten. That would be a great experience.
"Also, Maryland has shown a lot of interest. That's really big. Maryland is a big-time program. Other schools that have shown interest are Georgia Tech, Ohio State and Purdue."
Weatherspoon, a standout on the AAU circuit with team All-Ohio, has yet to rule out the possibility of joining Coach Miller in Arizona.
"I'm sure he's been really busy so I haven't had any contact with him," he explained. "I wouldn't mind playing in the Pac-10. That would be really fun."
Wisconsin currently does not have any known scholarships available in the class of 2010. Vander Blue and Evan Anderson, both of Wisconsin, are the only two known commitments.
