Russell arrives in Iowa City
After his summer plan to visit Iowa City was derailed by flooding, Nick Russell has made his way to Iowa City this weekend for his official visit. The 2009 point guard prospect arrived this evening on campus.
"I'm actually at the airport on my way to Iowa City," Russell said Thursday night. "I am pretty excited about the visit and looking forward to getting there this evening."
The 6-foot-4 point guard is being joined on the visit by his mother, who he says will be a big part of his decision-making process. The Rivals 150 guard already has some ideas of what he will be looking for on his trip.
"I'll be looking at the atmosphere on campus, what the school is like, and what the guys on the team are like. I will also be getting to know the coaching staff better, which is important."
Coach Todd Lickliter made his way down Russell's high school in Arlington, TX this week to see him in an open gym, where they spoke briefly about the upcoming visit. Russell says that the plan is to have him attend a class on Friday and also tour the campus and spend time with the coaches. On Saturday he will spend time at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in the early morning for Iowa's shirts and skins scrimmage and then attend the Iowa State/Iowa Football game.
This will be Russell's first official visit and he has two other planned at this point. He will visit Texas Tech next weekend and then he will make an official visit to UCLA on the final weekend of September.
At this point, Russell is still unsure of a timeline for making his college choice.
"I really couldn't put a date on it right now. I think I will know when I know the situation is right for me."
