SoCal guard set to take first visit

Two and a half weeks before the end of the signing period, Ryan Kelley does not have much more time to make his college decision.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound guard from Pomona (Calif.) Diamond Ranch has been drawing late interest from Colorado, Gonzaga, Indiana and Air Force.

Kelley is set to take his first official visit this week.

"I am taking a visit this Wednesday to Colorado," he explained. "I am just really looking forward to going out there and meeting Coach Bzdelik and his whole entire staff. They have a real great program and I'm just excited about it.

"I don't really know what to expect, but the visit should answer all my questions or at least most of them. Indiana also talked to me about taking a visit and Gonzaga as well. But I don't have those set up yet. If I don't sign with Colorado when I go out there, I will try to set those up."

Kelley averaged 16.8 points, four rebounds, two and a half assists and one and a half steals per game as a senior. He earned first-team all-league honors.

"Ryan has good strength as far as being able to attack the basket," said Diamond Ranch head coach Loren Grover. "He was really good around the rim. He kind of started to learn how to extend himself when he was attacking the rim. At the beginning of the year he was always trying to draw fouls instead of focusing on finishing. I thought he did a much better job of focusing on that by the end of the year. He started to recognize what was a good shot and what wasn't. And just his decision making on the floor, I thought was much improved by the end of the season.

"I'd like to see him have a little bit more consistency with his shot and he needs to continue to work on his athleticism, his quickness and that sort of thing."

Kelley played primarily shooting guard in high school, but is being projected by most colleges as a combo guard.
