Vols Targeting Elite '09 Shooter
Rob Lewis
VolQuest.com Anyone following Tennessee basketball in the two-plus years of the Bruce Pearl era is more than a little aware that the three-point shot figures prominently in the Vols attack. That penchant for the three-ball makes Kentucky prospect Jon Hood, one of the top 'pure-shooters' in the Class of 2009, a logical target for Tennessee.
Hood (6-foot-6, 185 pounds), from Madisonville, Ky. emerged as one of the elite shooting guards in the junior class after a strong summer, and offers from high-majors started to follow in short order.
Tennessee was one of the first programs to offer, a list that also includes Georgia, Ole Miss, Virginia and Kentucky.
Getting an early start on making an informed decision, Hood has made numerous unofficial visits since September, including a stop in Knoxville during a home-football weekend. He also made the trip down to Nashville to watch Tennessee play Western Kentucky in December, a move that doesn't count as an 'unofficial visit' since it was an off-campus contest.
Rivals.com rates Hood as a four-star prospect, the No. 39 overall player in the Class of 2009 and the No. 7 shooting guard in the nation among high school juniors.
