Roscoe Smith is next one to watch
November 15, 2007 - Baltimore has been a hotspot during this century, in terms of producing standout small forwards. It's as if developing multi-faceted, six foot eight inch and taller athletes is in the water, food, or culture.
Many in Baltimore have tabbed another wing, Class of 2010 member Roscoe Smith, as the city's next great swingman product. Just ask his assistant coach at Baltimore's Walbrook High School, Evan Moore.
"He's the best (small forward) in Baltimore, as a sophomore" recently said Moore of Smith, who now weighs around 185 pounds.
Wow, that's great praise indeed, and puts Roscoe, who travels the nation's travel team circuit with Team Melo, in high strata, but is an opinion shared by others.
Helping Roscoe shrug off people's expectations is a skill set that allows him to do most things well on the court, whether that be shooting, passing, or handling the ball. Additionally, the precocious player has a great understanding of the game, and good work ethic.
Many schools have already shown interest, including Georgetown, Maryland, North Carolina, and Texas.
His final decision, as well as what kind of player he develops into, is several years off. But suffice to say, Smith has the potential to be a great one, who also ends up patrolling the Big East. It's all up to him.
