Southern Illinois center high on Boilermakers
FORT WAYNE - In its quest to sign a couple of big men in its 2008 class, Purdue's coaching staff has turned to the Southern Illinois/St. Louis area to which it has so many ties.
Purdue has offered and heavily recruited Vienna, Ill., center Brett Thompson, having made a strong impression thus far.
"Matt Painter's been down to watch me four or five times," Thompson said at this weekend's Spiece Run 'N Slam, "and Coach (Paul) Lusk has been in real hard contact with me.
The 6-foot-11, 265-pound Illinois Warrior pivot has about a dozen offers, with Purdue ranking among his favorites. Others include St. Louis, Indiana, Notre Dame and Iowa State.
