Vols Targeting Chicago's Shumpert
In the basketball recruiting world, the month of April is one when reputations are made and previously unknown prospects emerge into high-profile recruits. Chicago guard Iman Shumpert entered the spring evaluation as a fringe prospect, but after several dazzling performances in front of college coaches last month, he's one of the fastest rising guards in the nation, with Tennessee being among the schools that are now targeting.
Shumpert (6-foot-4, 175 pounds) impressed onlookers with standout play at events in Pittsburgh and Akron, Ohio last month. Members of the Tennessee staff saw Shumpert play on consecutive weekends during the month, and were so impressed that the Vols offered him while visiting his school, Oak Park & River Forest, last week.
The Vols are hardly alone among Shumpert's newfound suitors. Georgia Tech, Clemson, Wisconsin, Miami, Notre Dame and Iowa have all stepped up with offers after his head-turning play during April.
