Bruins hoop schedule second toughest - Part II
Rick Kimbrel
BruinSportsReport.com In part two Coach Ben Howland is asked about the importance of playing his younger players over the next couple games before conference play. Howland praises the defensive effort of Texas &M. The outstanding play of Josh Shipp was discussed and of course UCLA's terrific point Darren Collison came up in the in the press conference. Part three will be up later today.
How critical is it to get some of your younger guys some playing time over the next couple of games?
Howland: "It's just game to game. We are just trying to win each game, one at a time.
"When it presents itself more opportunity then it's great. They know they are going to be thrown into tough situations this season is very early. They are going to be playing more minutes than they have played so far.
"I thought Russell's (Russell Westbrook) minutes were very. very good for us and that was a really hard game (Texas A&M) for those kids to play in."
Was James Keefe disappointed not to get in and does he understand why he's not getting in?
Howland: "I didn't talk to him after the game, but he was very supportive and happy about the team winning. I think James has done a good job but in that particular game it was just such a physical game that I elected to go with the guys that have the bigger bodies.
"I don't remember a more physical game than Saturday's game since I've been here except maybe Stanford beating the heck out of us my first year up there. That might be the one game where they just crushed us physically."
