Virginia Beach, Va., Kempsville wide receiver Jay Smith (6-foot-2, 195 pounds, 4.47 seconds) is one of the top 100 players in the nation for 2007. Smith, who has received scholarship offers from more than 30 programs, is starting to think about a timetable for his decision. Along with that, the talented wideout is starting to narrow his list of favorites. Is Virginia in the mix for one of the state's best players?
"Virginia is very much in the mix. Coach (Bob) Price stays in contact and I stay in touch with Coach (Al) Groh as well," said Smith.
Smith, who has never talked about a timetable for his decision, is starting to think about where he goes from here.
"The plan is to narrow my list to five or six schools by August. After that, I plan on taking official visits and then making my decision after my senior season is over."
