Howard Pulley 17 and Under Preview
Today the Howard Pulley Panthers leave for the Boo Williams Invitational in Virginia as they are a week into AAU season already. Leading the Panthers this year is Henry Sibley power forward Trevor Mbakwe who averaged 21 points and almost 13 rebounds a game. Braham small forward Noah Dahlman will also be a leader, Bear Johnson has come back home from Atlanta and will be the point guard, Matt Janning will give them a scoring punch and Xavier Reed's versatile talent is a major plus.
Mbakwe, 6-foot-7 225 pounds, was one of the top rebounders on the AAU circuit last summer and his explosive leaping ability inside provides the Panthers with jumphooks and dunks on offense and blocks and boards on the other end. Trevor is developing consistency on his mid-range jumper as his touch continues to improve. When he runs the floor hard he can move like a three up the floor which makes him a devastating weapon when he catches the ball going right to the basket inside. He is ranked as the 74th best junior in the nation and is being pursued heavily by Minnesota, Marquette, Michigan, Georgetown, Miami-FL and the national champion Florida Gators. Mbakwe is one of a few returning players from last year's Pulley team and the guy with the most experience at the 17-and-under level.
