Spiece Run N Slam - Xavier Targets Playing Well
The Spiece Run N Slam in Fort Wayne (IN) had more Musketeer recruiting targets then any other event of the AAU season so far. Although Division I college coaches are not permitted to attend the games all of these players are prospects that Xavier is targeting.
Devin Williams - OBC 17u - Williams was a man inside on Friday night in a win over a good MBA Elite team. He tallied over twenty points and fifteen rebounds by dominating on the offensive glass with his strength. Williams played out of the high post a lot of the time and was effective at facing up and attacking off of one dribble. The four star power forward from Cincinnati lists Xavier and UCLA as his top two schools right now.
Jaquan Lyle - Spiece Indy Heat 17u - Playing up an age group Lyle looked every bit the five star prospect that he's listed at. Lyle has great size for his guard position and ran a lot of point guard on Saturday for his Spiece team. Behind the arc he can knock down jumpers effortlessly off the dribble and does a nice job of using his athleticism to create space. Lyle lists interest from just about every high major program; noting that Louisville, Xavier, Cincinnati, Ohio State, and Indiana are all showing him interest.
Luke Kennard - King James 15u - Playing at his age group for the first time this spring Kennard looked like a man amongst boys on the court. Kennard has deceptive athleticism, can shoot the ball with consistency from deep, but is best when handling the ball on the perimeter and attacking. Around the rim he's a natural scorer who is better when going through contact. A likely top 50 prospect once his class is ranked Kennard lists offers from Dayton, Xavier, Michigan, and interest from Ohio State, Cincinnati, and Notre Dame.
E.C. Matthews - The Family 17u - The Detroit combo guard is really talented as a scorer and penetrator. The three star guard has just grabbed offers from Arizona, Nebraska, USC, and Iowa because of his playmaking ability off of the dribble. Matthews can shoot the ball, but isn't a natural shooter, that can create opportunities on both ends of the floor with his basketball instincts and athleticism.
Sterling Brown - Mac Irvin Fire 17u - The Chicago native is one of the best lockdown perimeter defenders at the tournament and understands his role on the team, playing alongside five stars Jahlil Okafor and Jabari Parker. Brown knocks down three-pointers when the shots present themselves and has high level athleticism. The three star guard is considered one of the top stock risers of the spring and is being recruited heavily by Xavier, Depaul, and Illinois.
Vince Edwards - King James 16u - The local combo forward was really impressive as a competitor over the weekend as he led his team through some ups and downs in a few games. Edwards shot the ball well from the three point line and played all five offensive positions over the course of the games. Now that he's a legit 6'7 we're seeing Edwards get more done inside as a scorer and distributor out of the post, making him even more of a versatile threat. A top 100 prospect, Edwards has offers from Xavier, Purdue, and West Virginia.
Maverick Morgan - Martin's Wolverines 17u - Morgan really ran the floor well on Friday night with his Wolverines team. The Springboro center scored around the rim with soft touch and pounded smaller defenders to set up post position. Morgan has improved on the backboards and is playing with an improved level of toughness. Currently he has an offer from Xavier along with offers from Dayton, Minnesota, Rutgers, West Virginia, and Iowa State.
Brandon Hatton - Louisville Magic 16u - The Northern Kentucky shooting guard has been working hard on his body since the high school season ended. Hatton's improved conditioning has made it easier for him to find shots playing in the up tempo style that the Magic play, with other Xavier targets Trey Grundy and D'Angelo Russell. He's still one of the best open shooters on the circuit and has shown scouts that he can score in a variety of ways off the dribble. Hatton says that Xavier is the high major school that is most interested in him right now.
