Hooper wants to check out Oregon
Concord (Calif.) De La Salle defensive end Austin Hooper is one of the top pass rushers in California and his home state schools are trying to make sure they keep him nearby.
To date most of Hooper's attention has been focused on California schools, Cal and Stanford in particular. The Bay Area schools have simply been the most convenient for Hooper to visit, though they obviously have plenty to offer.
"I was at Cal's junior day the other day and the only schools I've really visited are Cal and Stanford," Hooper told Duck Sports Authority this week. "I haven't really been anywhere out of state yet. Cal was really cool. I mean, it's right in my backyard so it felt like home. It was cool to get out there and watch a game-like tempo with a practice-like atmosphere. It was laid back and relaxed but also full go, so it was fun."
While the 6-foot-4, 233-pound defensive end has focused on the two local schools for the most part he's hoping to broaden his horizons soon.
Hooper said he's hoping to visit Washington, Oregon and maybe even a school as far away as Northwestern.
He admits he doesn't know too much about the out-of-state schools yet but he knows that will change if he's able to visit.
