Move paying off for Covington
Anthony Covington has seen plenty of change over the last year.
The 5-foot-11, 193-pounder made the move from Atlanta to Charlotte and also had to transition from playing running back to cornerback on the gridiron as well.
But it is a move that seems to have paid off for the Mallard Creek standout.
"The transition from Atlanta to Charlotte was a little better that I'd hoped for," Covington said. "Moving from Atlanta and leaving my friends at such a critical point was definitely hard to do but my father and mother assured me that this would be the best opportunity for me. We moved to a school that was very well known for football so that was definitely an improvement on the recruiting side. I went into it with a positive attitude.
"My coaches really stayed on me as far as the adjustment on and off the field. The transition from running back to DB (defensive back) was rough over the summer. We did some 7-on-7 and the more we went live in scrimmages, they were really patient with me. I guess they saw my potential and I would be a great asset to the team. They were set at the running back position and needed somebody to play DB. I wanted to be that guy to step up and fill that spot for them."
