Rebels land 2011 hoops commitment
Aaron Jones was overshadowed by some more highly-recruited players in Mississippi the last couple of seasons.
Jones, a 6-foot-7 combo forward from Pascagoula (Gautier), Miss., ignored the hype machine and focused on his game. On Monday, that hard work paid off.
Jones committed to Ole Miss Monday, joining Brookhaven, Miss., guard Ladarius White as members of the Rebels' 2011 signing class. Jones is expected to sign a letter-of-intent with Ole Miss next month.
Jones, who did not play AAU basketball, emerged on the scene this summer at the Deep South All-American Camp, hosted by Jamie Palmer, at Baton Rouge (La.) Community College. The camp, which has become a venue for under-the-radar prospects from Louisiana, Mississippi and Memphis, also drew several big-name prospects. Jones more than held his own in his time on the floor.
"Arguably the camp's top prospect, Jones is a big-time sleeper with an intriguing package that includes remarkable length, the ability to put the ball on the floor in both halfcourt and transition, decent passing skills, solid rebounding ability, defensive versatility and deep range on his (jumper)," SLAM magazine wrote after scouting the camp.
