2010 point guard excited to get on campus
The 2010 recruiting class for Central Michigan's basketball program has earned a lot of attention, and while it is true that CMU Nation can't wait to see this team out on the floor together this winter, the same can be said for the players as well.
This past weekend, 3 players from the 2010 class were in town, along with Trey Zeigler, who is always in town. Two of those three, Paris Parramore and Andre Coimbra, hadn't made up their mind before the trip. The other, Derek Jackson, has known he was going to be a Chippewa for a long time. It was just time to finally visit.
"I really liked it. I liked how everything was close together and you don't have to walk far to get to places," Jackson said. "The dorms were really nice too. Of course, I can't wait to play in the new area and even though I don't play football, the inside turf field was really cool too."
Jackson came away from the weekend impressed with more then just the campus and city.
"All the guys were really cool and a lot of fun to be around."
Though Derek is very excited about coming up to CMU, he isn't done working just yet.
"I just have been working hard every day," Jackson said. "I want to keep working on my shooting and just becoming a better overall player."
Even though Derek saw a lot of success at the high school and AAU levels, that doesn't mean he is ready for college basketball now, and the best part is, he knows it.
"I am really focusing on getting stronger, so I am where I need to be come the fall," Jackson said with a laugh. "And of course, making sure I am in great shape."
With only two weeks of high school left Derek is focused on CMU, and is as happy about going there as the rest of the fanbase is about him arriving there.
"I can't wait to get back up there, if I could move up there now I would."
Now will come soon enough as Jackson will join the rest of the newcomers, and the entire team during the second session of summer classes.
