Iowa victory is Fitz's signature win
Northwestern's stunning 17-10 win on Saturday did more than stick a banana in the tailpipe of No. 4 Iowa's season. It also gave coach Pat Fitzgerald the signature win of his young career.
Fitzgerald had already accomplished quite a bit in his tenure at the helm in Evanston. He improved the Wildcats' record in each of his first three years, he vastly improved recruiting, and he led Northwestern to a 9-4 record and the Alamo Bowl last season.
But the gap on his resume was a big-time win against a big-time opponent -- a hole he filled with the Wildcats' stirring victory over the previously undefeated Hawkeyes.
