2011 guard impressed with Izzo, MSU atmosphere
While Tom Izzo continues to work on putting the finishing touches on Michigan State's 2010 recruiting class, he and the rest of the Spartan coaching staff are busy seeking out options for the Class of 2011, and their efforts have led them to the state of Indiana and four-star guard Jeremiah Davis of Muncie Central.
Davis is relatively new on the Spartans' radar, and MSU recently became very involved in the 6-3, 195-pounder's recruitment.
"It started around maybe July. They started contacting my high school coach and then they've been to my workouts, like Tom Izzo and Coach (Mark) Montgomery they come to the workouts," Davis told SpartanMag.com earlier this week.
MSU is just one of several Big Ten programs involved in Davis' recruitment. Along with the Spartans, he claims offers from conference teams Indiana, Purdue and Ohio State, while Ball State, Cincinnati, Dayton, Miami-FL, Tennessee and Xavier round out his offer list. He says he is also receiving interest from Georgetown and Notre Dame.
"I don't have any favorites. It's still wide open," Davis said. "But I like Michigan State a lot." He added that he likes the Spartans because of, "Coach Izzo, their playing style and the environment."
Davis added of the relationship he's built with Izzo thus far: "He's just a real down to earth guy. He says, 'don't go off of what I tell you, go off of what I've done,' like his track record, and that speaks a lot. He's not just speaking, he's also doing it."
